At WellPet Vets, we care deeply about the health and wellbeing of all animals, not just the pets that visit our clinics. That’s why we’re proud to work closely with WIRES, Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organisation. Our partnership reflects our commitment to supporting wildlife in our community and providing vital care when it’s needed most.

Why We Work With WIRES

Wildlife encounters happen every day in Penrith and surrounding areas; whether it’s a bird injured in a collision, a possum in distress, or a kangaroo struck by a vehicle. Many of these animals require urgent medical attention, and WIRES plays a critical role in rescuing and rehabilitating them.

By collaborating with WIRES, WellPet Vets ensures that injured and orphaned wildlife receive professional veterinary care quickly. Importantly, all veterinary care we provide for wildlife is done on a pro-bono basis; WellPet Vets covers all the costs involved. This allows WIRES volunteers and carers to focus on rescue and rehabilitation, without worrying about the expense of veterinary treatment.

How the Relationship Works

When WIRES rescues an animal in need, they often bring it to one of our WellPet clinics.

Our vets assess the animal, provide treatment, and determine the next steps in consultation with WIRES. We work together to:

  • Provide emergency and routine veterinary care for rescued wildlife at no cost.
  • Support rehabilitation efforts, including nutrition, medication, and monitoring recovery.

Members of the public can bring injured wildlife to our clinic, where our team provides treatment and liaises with WIRES to arrange ongoing care

This collaborative approach ensures rescued wildlife receives professional care while easing the workload on volunteers and carers. It’s a partnership built on shared knowledge, compassion, and a common goal: helping animals thrive.

Supporting Wildlife Together

At WellPet Vets, our partnership with WIRES is part of our broader mission to support all members of our community: both human and animal. Whether it’s reuniting lost pets, providing emergency treatment, or aiding rescued wildlife, our goal is always the same: to make a positive difference.

By working with WIRES, we can extend that care to the local wildlife that shares our environment, ensuring more animals get a second chance at life, all while keeping the care accessible and fully supported by WellPet Vets.

If you find injured wildlife, you can bring them to our clinic. We provide immediate care and coordinate with WIRES for their continued rehabilitation
