Injured Wildlife

What to do if you find injured or orphaned wildlife

If you come across injured or orphaned wildlife, avoid approaching or handling the animal unless it’s in immediate danger, as stress and injury can worsen with human contact.

The best first step is to contact WIRES on 1300 094 737 — their trained rescue volunteers can provide advice and arrange safe collection.

If the animal is in urgent need of medical help or is unsafe where it is, you can carefully transport it to your nearest vet clinic; there’s no charge for wildlife treatment at WellPet Vets.

Partnering with WIRES to Care for Local Wildlife

Since opening our doors, WellPet Vets has proudly worked alongside WIRES to support injured and orphaned wildlife throughout Western Sydney. Our team has treated a wide range of native species — from tiny microbats and possums to larger animals like tawny frogmouths, wombats and Eastern Grey Kangaroos. We’ve also been privileged to assist wildlife affected by major bushfire events, providing critical care for burns, dehydration, and trauma.

Sadly, as urban development continues to expand across Western Sydney, native animals are increasingly displaced, injured or orphaned due to habitat loss, vehicle accidents, and human interaction. Our commitment, together with WIRES, is to give these animals the best chance of recovery and release, ensuring they receive professional veterinary care before being placed with trained wildlife carers.
