Blood Donor Program
Helping Save Lives — One Donation at a Time
Just like in human medicine, donated blood can make all the difference for pets in need of life-saving treatment. At WellPet Vets, we’re proud to run a Blood Donor Program to ensure we have access to safe, healthy blood products for dogs and cats facing emergencies, surgeries, or serious illness.
Why Blood Donation Matters
Blood transfusions can be critical in cases of trauma, blood loss, clotting disorders, toxin exposure, and severe anaemia. Our donor pets provide a vital lifeline to patients who need immediate support during these difficult times.
Could Your Pet Be a Hero?
We are always looking for healthy, calm, and friendly dogs and cats to join our donor team.
Ideal canine donors:
- Aged 1–7 years old
- Weigh over 25kg
- Up-to-date on vaccinations and parasite prevention
- Calm and good-natured temperament
- Healthy, with no major medical history
Ideal feline donors:
- Aged 1–7 years old
- Indoor only
- Weigh over 4kg
- Up-to-date on vaccinations and parasite prevention
- Healthy, with no prior health concerns
What’s Involved
All donor pets receive a free health check and blood typing prior to their first donation. If eligible, donations are usually quick and stress-free, much like a human blood donation. To make the process as stress-free as possible, our blood donors are sedated and monitored during the donation. Most pets recover quickly and leave with plenty of praise, cuddles, and a treat!
