Exotics
At WellPet Vets, we now offer exotic pet care tailored to the unique needs of your companion. We offer comprehensive veterinary services for birds, reptiles, rabbits, rodents, ferrets, and other exotic animals. Led by Dr. Rami, who has a keen interest in exotic pets, our team provides compassionate care for your furry, feathered or scaley friend.

Services Available
Rabbits & Rodents
We offer both preventative care and advanced treatment options for rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and mice.
Services include:
- Annual rabbit health check + vaccine
- Rodent and rabbit dental care
- Castration and desexing (rabbits & guinea pigs)
- Management of common emergencies including; Gastric obstruction (includes surgery, 2–3 night stay, fluid therapy, and assisted feeding and Gastrointestinal stasis (ileus)
Ferrets
Ferrets require specialised preventative and reproductive care. We provide:
- Suprelorin implant under sedation
- Emergency surgical desexing (no longer routinely recommended)
- Annual distemper vaccination with health check
Birds
From routine trimming to reproductive hormone management, we offer a range of services for pet birds, chickens and parrots.
Available services:
- Beak trimming (requires consultation and general anaesthetic)
- Wing trimming
- Suprelorin implant (under short GA, chickens can be done awake)
- Microchipping (under short GA)
- Disease testing:
- Chlamydia
- PBFD
- Lead toxicity testing
Reptiles
Reptile patients are welcome for both routine health services and advanced diagnostics.
Services include:
- Gender identification
- Faecal testing
- Microchipping
- UVB light testing (coming soon)
- Pathogen testing (via Murdoch University)
- Sunshine virus
- Nidovirus
- Euthanasia
- Home visits available for large collections
Fish & Turtles
We offer basic diagnostics and handling for aquatic species.
- Water quality testing
- In-water anaesthetic (fish only)
Imaging & Diagnostics
Advanced imaging is available for exotic pets, including:
- Ultrasound
- Radiographs
- CT scanning

What happens during a rabbit or rodent dental procedure?
Our exotic vets offer complete rabbit and rodent dental care. This includes a first dental procedure with full skull x-rays to assess the teeth and jaw. Treatments may involve trimming or extracting incisors or molars, and ongoing dental management is available for pets diagnosed with dental disease syndrome.
Do you offer emergency exotic vet care?
Yes, we provide emergency care for exotic pets, including rabbits and guinea pigs experiencing gastric obstruction or gastrointestinal stasis (ileus).
What ferret veterinary services are available?
We offer ferret health care services, including Suprelorin hormonal implants under sedation, annual ferret vaccinations against distemper, and emergency surgical desexing if needed. Our exotic vets are experienced in handling the unique needs of ferrets.
Can you help with my bird’s beak, wings, or health care?
Yes. We offer bird veterinary services including beak trimming (performed safely under general anaesthetic), wing trimming, Suprelorin hormone implants, and microchipping. We also provide bird disease testing for Chlamydia, PBFD, and blood lead levels, ensuring comprehensive bird health care.
What reptile veterinary services do you offer?
Our reptile vets provide a range of services for snakes, lizards, and turtles, including gender identification, faecal parasite testing, UVB light testing, microchipping, and specialist pathogen testing (Sunshine virus, Nidovirus). We also offer humane reptile euthanasia and home visits for large reptile collections.
Do you treat fish and turtles?
Yes. Our exotic pet vet services extend to aquatic species. We offer water quality testing and specialised in-water anaesthesia for fish when procedures or treatments are needed.
Can exotic pets have CT scans and x-rays?
Yes. We offer radiology and CT scanning for exotic animals, often at a lower cost compared to traditional dog and cat scans. Our advanced diagnostic imaging helps us diagnose and treat a wide range of exotic pet health issues effectively.
