Behaviour Services

At WellPet Vets, we understand that a well-behaved pet is a happier, more confident member of your family. Our Behaviour Services are designed to support pets and their owners through every stage — from playful puppies to mature dogs needing a little extra guidance.

Behaviour Consultations

Behavioural issues can affect your pet’s quality of life — and your relationship with them. Our comprehensive Behaviour Consultations are designed to identify the underlying causes of problem behaviours and create a tailored treatment plan to support lasting change.

During a Behaviour Consultation, our experienced veterinarians and qualified trainers will work closely with you to understand your pet’s full history, environment, and daily routine. We assess factors such as anxiety, fear responses, aggression, excessive barking, destructive behaviour, inappropriate toileting, and more.

Depending on your pet’s needs, your treatment plan may include:

Petopia
Desensitisation and Counter-Conditioning Training

A gradual and positive approach to help your pet become less sensitive to triggers like loud noises, strangers, other animals, or handling. Over time, we help shift their emotional response from fear or anxiety to calmness and confidence.

Management Strategies and Environmental Changes

Sometimes small adjustments at home — like structured routines, safe spaces, enrichment activities, and controlled exposure — can significantly reduce stress and problem behaviours.

Training Programs

Tailored training exercises to build your pet’s trust, focus, and social skills, using only positive reinforcement methods.

Medication Support (if needed)

In some cases, we may recommend short-term medication to assist with anxiety or fear during high-stress periods (such as storms or fireworks). For pets with more persistent or severe behavioural challenges, long-term medication combined with behaviour modification may provide the best outcomes.
Our vets will discuss all options carefully with you, ensuring any medication is safe, appropriate, and regularly monitored.

At WellPet Vets, we believe every pet deserves to feel safe, secure, and understood. With the right support, even complex behaviours can improve, helping your pet enjoy a calmer, happier life.

Puppy Pre-School & Dog Training Classes

Meet the Behaviour Services Team!

Our behaviour team is dedicated to helping pets and their families live together in a calm, stress-free environment. Leading the team is Dr Miks, a veterinarian with a special interest in animal behaviour. Her medical background allows her to assess whether behavioural issues may be linked to underlying health conditions. She can also run diagnostic tests and trial medications where appropriate to support behaviour management. Working alongside her is Kayla Cooper, a qualified veterinary nurse who holds Delta accreditation—the only nationally recognised qualification in animal behaviour. Together, they offer a compassionate, science-based approach to improving the wellbeing of pets and their people.
